May Sri Daniel Baba Ram bless me with a kingdom built upon a foundation of toilet paper, cardboard and tattered fabric.
Lineage in tantra is the line of influence from one magician to the next. None of us exist in a
vacuum,
we take influence from someone or something else whether we realize it or not. Our gurus can
come from
many sources and they all have gurus of their own. There is an endless cycle of gurus that
spread their
art like a benevolent virus from one generation to the next and back to its source.
On the throne of gold, surrounded by sweets and attendants, sits the great prince
Ganapati. He
is a god child born into greatness. His belly is swollen with soma and he will surely
reign for
uncountable years. At his feet is a small pile of trash. Shreds of paper, rotten food
and
assorted scraps collected from every corner of the palace. Who is responsible for this
filth? A
small creature scurries from place to place.
He has no home even though he sleeps in a palace.
He doesn’t want a home, it would be too much to manage. He is happy resting wherever he finds
himself. He has no riches even though he is surrounded by wealth. To manage such a fortune would
be a bother. He has no reputation though he is the closest friend of a prince. Reputation is
just another thing to upkeep. He is happy being the rat. He doesn’t care if he is loved or
feared. He doesn’t care if he swims in the gutter or the temple bath. He is not confined by a
life of expectation or regality. If anyone tries to pin him down, he always slips through the
cracks. In his smallness and in his willingness to get dirty, he is free.
Every creature of the gutter is a rat whether they are covered in fur or not. They exist in an empire of leftovers. Rats are extremely heartfelt animals. They develop intense bonds with their loved ones. The thing about the love of a rat is that it is as short lived as it is strong. Rats die quickly by human standards. They have a life expectancy of about two years. If you knew you only had two years to live, would you worry about making a shitload of money or driving a fancy car? Fuck no. You would party and make due with what you had. No saving for tomorrow. Quality over quantity motherfucker. Rats don’t scurry from place to place because they are worried. Have you ever seen a rat relax? They sprawl out like a drunk pimp. Rats are in a hurry because they want to make the most out of every second of life that they have left. They want to party. Mooshika is the god rat. All gutter creatures are of his lineage. That includes the furry ones and the non-furry ones, boys and girls, rich and poor it doesn’t matter. The rat is a state of consciousness and you can access it by diving headfirst into life and not worrying if you end up in the dumpster.
Our most auspicious and glowing Guru was born in the great state of Tennessee sometime between the month of September and November of 2021, though his exact birth date remains unknown. Our most beloved and precious Guru was known as “Little Daniel” until the gift of Divine Rat Consciousness was revealed to him in a dream. In this dream, Daniel merged with the glowing light of Mooshika’s love and took on the name Sri Daniel Baba Ram. Sri Daniel Baba Ram decided to dedicate his life to spreading Mooshika’s teachings and raising Rat Consciousness around the globe.
During his short life of two and a half years, Sri Daniel Baba Ram taught many individuals to look past his physical appearance and see the unity between self and other, man and mouse. His very presence helped others to reconcile opposites and understand the concept of non-dual existence and he was loved by all of his cage-mates and devotees. The Northern California Society for Rat Consciousness recognizes Sri Daniel Baba Ram as an important innovator in the left-hand path tantric technique of alchemical “Kroncha Transformation” whereby the initiate is urged to reconnect with and soothe what Baba Ram calls the “inner-rat.” You can learn more about the Kroncha Transformation in our temple section on Sri Daniel Baba Ram’s teachings.Sweet peanut-loving and benevolent Guru passed on from this incarnation in May of 2023 after a short battle with throat cancer. Sri Daniel Baba Ram entered the state of Mahasamadhi in the arms of his beloved devotee Dahmer Vision while listening to his favorite song “Holy Diver” by Ronnie James Dio.

There are many teachings passed down from our beloved Guru Sri Daniel Baba Ram as he was a vessel for the wisdom of rodent source; however, he is most noted for his contributions to inner alchemy and the concept of “Kroncha Transformation.” Many people do not know this, but before Mooshika became Lord Ganesha’s beloved vahana and companion, he had a primordial form known as Kroncha. Kroncha was an arrogant artist with an anger problem. Kroncha was operating from his reptilian rat brain - he was only concerned with immediate gratification so he roamed the countryside destroying everything in his path. One day, Kroncha was rude to some guy named Vamadeva. He stepped on Vamadeva’s foot. Instead of being cool and just admitting that he should’ve been more careful and aware of his own destructive presence, Kroncha projected his anger at Vamadeva and said something like “why are you standing there? Get out of my way!”
The exact dialogue of the scenario will never be known, that’s kind of how myths work. What we do know about this myth, is that Kroncha could not admit any wrong-doing because he could not stand to feel small! Vamadeva cursed Kroncha to feel small for eternity by turning him into a RAT! Kroncha fell to the feet of Vamadeva and apologized. Vamadeva forgave him, but refused to change Kroncha back into his arrogant artist form. Instead, he suggested that Kroncha become Lord Ganesha’s disciple. Kroncha was totally distraught being a rat and in his depression he began roaming the countryside like a lost soul. In his rat form, Kroncha’s destructive nature was amplified. He could not come to terms with being small. He was chewing holes in the drywall, stealing food, peeing and pooping without discretion. It was a bad time in his life.
Lord Ganesha heard it through the grapevine that some manic-depressive rat was roving the countryside and disturbing the peace, so he set out to capture him. Using his noose, Ganesha was able to subdue Kroncha and mount him. The weight of Ganesha’s big fat elephant ass was too much for Kroncha and he BROKE! He began crying about his depression, explaining to Ganesha that he couldn’t take being small anymore! Ganesha revealed to Kroncha that he was simply feeling the way he had been making others feel. Kroncha realized the truth about his destructive nature and was immediately humbled. Ganesha bestowed Kroncha with the ability to bear his weight and asked him to become his divine vehicle (vahana) to which Kroncha agreed.
The most lovely Guru Sri Daniel Baba Ram recognized that the Kroncha state of consciousness was the system by which most people were operating. Like Kroncha, the unenlightened individual is existing in a state of projective fantasies. Kroncha could not bear to feel small because being small meant being “below” another individual. Sri Daniel Baba Ram felt akin to Kroncha because he was given the name “Little Daniel” at birth and because of this, he was forced to tap into the left-hand aspects of Mooshika. To transform the Little Self into the Self, Sri Daniel Baba Ram taught that an individual must come to terms with the aspects of themselves that they feel repelled by. If an initiate does not complete this process, he will manifest his own hell. Repulsive aspects of the Little Self are different for every individual and identifying these can be very difficult. Along with this, the impetus for most initiates is to try and destroy the Little Self. When Kroncha was humbled by Ganesha, he did not stop being a destructive little rat, he just grew in awareness and had a better understanding of his own power. You cannot destroy what is a part of your essence, but you can direct in in a way that serves your dharmic purpose.
It is advised to practice Kroncha Transformation under the supervision of a Rat Guru. Gurus are notoriously hard to come by, but as the old saying goes “when the student is ready, the teacher appears.” You can begin looking for a Guru on the pet section of craigslist. You could take the more controversial route and find a Guru from Petsmart; however be prepared for some pushback when obtaining a Petsmart Guru, there are a lot of right-hand path Mooshika devotees out there who are terrified by the impure lineage of the pet store Guru. These devotees believe that by getting a rat from a supplier like Petsmart you are inadvertently supporting the imprisonment of the rat species by corporate retailers. We here at the Sri Daniel Baba Ram Guru Shrine as well as our partners over at the Northern California Society for Rat Consciousness really don’t give a fuck and do not believe that saving a rodent from existing in a pet store is some kind of irresponsible black magic.
