MY SATIRICAL MENTAL BREAKDOWN(2025) — 4m 45s — Digital Video

For the intended experience, please play the film alongside the director’s cut commentary below. The suggested alignment recalls the unofficial synchronization of The Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, a precedent the filmmaker neither confirms nor denies.

In the short film, My Satirical Mental Breakdown, we are directly exposed to an example of satire that may not be satire but may in fact be padding so that your fragile understanding of reality does not fall to ruin and run into the sink of Samsara to be recycled again and again with no memory of where, when and how you got here. This is the feeling conveyed in the film. A sense of tension concerning whether or not the subject will escape this cycle or if she is set on a course that will lead to dissolution and the need for a new identity totally separate from the original. A dance is performed with the intention of drawing out any last bit of meaning that may save the psyche and therefore allow for a return to the soul and root. This is the timeless struggle of a mad sage who has flown too close to the sun and must now contend with the free fall back to earth. Some transcend this fall and become royalty of the underworld while others are simply destroyed on the rocks below. The moviegoer is left to decide which of these two fates has been reached.
